Diseases Cause by Biological Warfare

There are a variety of toxins, synthetic chemicals and genetically engineered substances which could be created, to create epidemics of disease in the form of diseases caused by biological warfare. Such weapons could be used to act as a deterrent or used in reality.

There are a number of diseases which could be spread by the use of biological weaponry, which include –

1. Anthrax.

Anthrax results from an infection by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis which can occur naturally in humans and other animals in many regions of the world. The bacteria can be ingested in food, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin, so it would not be difficult to infect a population by the release of airborne anthrax bacteria.

2. Botulism.

The botulism bacterium Clostridium botulium can be taken via contaminated food or drink. The bacteria produce a substance which is toxic to the nervous system and leads to serious paralyses. This is another bacterium which could readily be introduced into a population.

3. Plague.

This disease is readily transmitted to humans by suffering a bite from infected rodents or fleas. These creatures become infected by the bacterium Yersinia pestis and pass it on to humans by either a bite or by having direct contact as would be the case with a flea. Bubonic, Septicaemic, and Pneumonic plagues are the types which affect humans.

Both Smallpox and Tularaemia are another two highly infectious diseases which could be introduced deliberately into populations. Smallpox has largely been eradicated but could readily be resurrected in a laboratory along with tularaemia to cause widespread biological diseases.

Diseases Caused by Computer Use

In this modern electronic age where most people are familiar with computers and their use, it is not uncommon that many daily occupations demand the full time use of a computer. Even families who have personal computers at home spend many hours on the internet gaining information, or using one of the many social networks.

There can be a number of risks associated with using the computer for prolonged periods and there can be actual diseases caused by computer use. The continual use of the wrists and fingers in using the keyboard and the mouse along with staring at the monitor for long periods can have adverse effects on the body as follows. –

1. Diseases of the Eye.

Our eyes are a vital part of our body and should be treated with respect. It is advisable to take short breaks from staring at the computer screen and to avoid staring at the screen without blinking as we work. There have been links established between the development of the eye condition Glaucoma and computer usage, especially in people already suffering from short sightedness.

2. Posture.

Unless a good sitting position is adopted and maintained while working on the computer, the inevitable result will be pain in the lower back region, and stiffness experienced in the neck and shoulders. The ideal sitting position is to work with the hands at 90ยบ to the key board and mouse, the back supported and straight, and the eyes just above the screen.

3. Wrists and Hands.

Working in front of the computer all day can cause soreness of the wrist and hand. Frequent and continual use of the keyboard can bring on feelings of pain and numbness in the wrists, which can be indicative of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Make sure that break periods are taken and position the keyboard and mouse are beneath elbow level.

4. Stress.

Like most continual operations the continual use of the computer can lead to stress, and stress can be the source of many other types of disease. Stressful and frustrating conditions can be avoided by organizing the work correctly and taking frequent breaks away from the computer.

Diseases Caused by Rodents

Rats are the commonest form of animal which come to mind when the word rodents is mentioned. There are in fact many other types of rodent such as the beaver, the muskrat, and the gerbil often owned by young children as a domestic pet.

Certainly most people class rodents as being urban pests but most rodents live in other environments were they have little interaction with humans. However any close proximity to human habitation means that they can spread and transmit infections which do have an effect on people, there are a number of diseases caused by rodents. –

Leptosporosis. This disease is primarily caused by bacterial infection from the Leptospira pathogen. These pathogens dwell in the kidney of the host carrier and are passed out in the urine. Some leptospires which are harmful to humans may be benign to the host carrier although there are cases whereby other wild and domestic animals can suffer from the same type of symptoms as humans affected by the bacterium. The symptoms follow a similar pattern to influenza but in two stages. The first stage lasts only a couple of days then is followed by a second stage which in severe cases will lead to organ failure and death unless immediately treated.

Plague The bacteria for plague (Yersinia pestis) is not only carried by rodents but can be carried by other small mammals as well. The plague which devastated Europe a few centuries ago is thought to have been caused by fleas carried by rats. Urban rodents are thought to pick up the infection by having direct interaction with other wild species and transferring the infection to humans. Bubonic plague appears as black spots on the skin and a swelling of the lymph glands and if untreated has a very high death rate. The disease if unchecked can spread to the lungs causing pneumonic plague which can become fatal within 48 hours unless immediately treated.

Toxoplasmosis. The pathogen Toxoplasma gondii is responsible for this disease, and is often to be found in domestic cats. The bacteria can reproduce within the animal and be passed out in the feces of the cat. Quite often the cat feces are eaten by other animals and the cycle is repeated causing the pathogen to spread. Humans can become infected by the bacteria by eating food or drinking water which has become infected by the pathogen. The symptoms are very similar to influenza and can last for several weeks, but fatalities rarely occur from this form of disease.

For any person suffering from toxoplasmosis then following a successful recovery life long immunity is gained against the disease. However there is a danger to any pregnant lady contracting the disease for the first time since there is a high degree of risk associated with her either suffering a miscarriage, or the baby suffering from some form of genetic def

Diseases Caused by Chromosome Disorders

A chromosome is a rod shaped structure within the animal cell which carries the stretches of DNA referred to as genes. They are located in pairs within the nucleus of the cell and determine the sex and the characteristics of the organism inherited from its parents. In the human species there are 46 chromosomes arranged in sets of 23 pairs, one set being donated by the mother and one by the father.

The sex cells are referred to as gametes; the male gamete being the spermatozoa, and the female gamete being the egg or ova. Commonly there is no problem associated with chromosomal crossing over during gamete formation but occasionally things go amiss and cause an alteration in the number of chromosomes in the nucleus or the internal gene structure within the chromosome becomes changed in some way.

Sometimes an extra chromosome can be embodied in the divided cell during gamete formation in which case on of the gamete cells will have a double copy of the same chromosome, and another gamete cell will be short of that particular chromosome. This is referred to as a nondisjunction.

Some Diseases Caused by Chromosome Disorders.

Chromosomal nondisjunction is not uncommon in humans and can often develop into the fatality of the fetus, but children can be born with the following disorders.

Down Syndrome. With this type of genetic disorder the child is born with a broad head accompanied by blunted facial features. The child is often short in height and has severe difficulty in learning. It is the most common type of chromosomal disorder and occurs because the baby receives 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46 chromosomes. This is due to the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. The characteristics of the disorder can often show in the forms of dementia, slow physical and mental development, and increased rates of disease associated with the thyroid gland and intestines. If conception takes place in a 35 – 40 year old female then the risk of delivering a child suffering from Down syndrome is relatively high.

Patau Syndrome. This syndrome is a result of trisomy in chromosome 13. It seems to affect female babies more than male, but perhaps this is due to affected male fetuses dying in the womb. The child often suffers neurological problems and physical defects such as having extra fingers or toes, facial defects (cleft lip or palate), and serious heart defects.

Klinefelter’s Syndrome. This chromosomal disorder is known as the XXY condition. The female is characterized by the XX chromosome and the male by the XY chromosome. In Klinefelter’s syndrome the male has an XXY chromosome. It is estimated that about one male in every five hundred is affected by the condition which shows as the male having body proportions which closely resemble that of the female, and having small non sperm producing testes. Males can have multiple copies of the X chromosome (XXXY) or even (XXXXY) and the female characteristics become more pronounced with every increase in the number X chromosomes.

What is cancer and what are the causes of cancer?

Causes of cancer at a glance: Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of one rouge cell. The causes of cancer include at least three mechanisms – the loss of stop signals or the failure of the body to remove damaged cells, or viruses. The most common risk factors for cancer include genetics, smoking and UV radiation.

The causes of cancer – loss of stop signals

One of the causes of cancer involves the loss of stop signals. We start our life from a single cell. It divides and develops into various tissues and organs. When the tissues and organs reach a certain size and shape they stop growing. There are many signals that tell a cell to stop growing. When something goes wrong with these ‘stop signals’ the cell continue to grow and causes cancer.

Cancer is the result of one rogue cell

The causes of cancer – failure to remove faulty cells
The body is always in a state of maintenance mode in which faulty cells are constantly removed and replaced by new healthy cells. This is called cell turnover. Sometimes the body may lose its ability to remove the faulty cells. As a result, the faulty cell starts to grow uncontrollably and causes cancer.

The causes of cancer – viruses

Viruses can also cause cancer, for example, the human papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer. They are also called oncoviruses. Onco refers to cancer. Oncoviruses integrate their DNA or RNA (genetic material) with their host genes (our genes). As a result, the cell that has integrated the genetic material of the virus starts to grow uncontrollably and causes cancer.

The causes of cancer – risk factors

Each cancer has its own set of risk factors. What does risk factor mean? It means if you are exposed to any of those factors, your chances of developing cancer are higher than those who are not exposed to those factors. It does not mean you will definitely develop cancer. The common risk factors that can cause cancer include genetic make-up, family history, tobacco smoking (for example lung cancer), excessive alcohol consumption (many cancer), viral infections (cervical cancer), occupational exposure (mesothelioma from asbestos) and ultraviolet radiations (skin cancers).

Sutent for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma

Sutent is a multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is used for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. Multi-tyrosine kinases are a group of molecules that are responsible for the growth, progression and metastasis of renal cell carcinoma.  Treatment with sutent stops the actions of these molecules and help to decrease the progression of renal cell carcinoma. Only advanced renal cell carcinoma is treated with sutent.

How is sutent administered for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma?

Sutent is supplied as 12.5 mg, 25 mg, and 50 mg capsules. The treatment concentration is determined by the medical practitioner and taken by mouth once daily, with or without food. The most common dose  is 50 mg. Treatment of renal cell carcinoma with sutent is performed in an on/off cycle fashion, which means 50 mg every day for 4 weeks, followed by no drugs for 2 weeks. This cycle continues at the discretion of the medical practitioner.

How effective is sutent treatment in renal cell carcinoma?

The effect of sutent for renal cell carcinoma is determined by progression-free survival. In simple terms, progression-free survival is the length of time during and after the treatment the disease does not get worse. Treatment of renal cell carcinoma with sutent gives a progression-free survival of approximately 11 months (range 5 to 11 months). This means sutent treatment can stop the worsening of renal cell carcinoma from 5 to 11 months. In most cases, sutent does not prolong the lifespan of patients.

What are the adverse side effects of sutent treatment in renal cell carcinoma patients?

Renal cell carcinoma patients who are treated with sutent experience many adverse side effects. This does not mean that all patients who take sutent will experience all of these side effects. These are patient-specific. The general adverse side effects of sutent treatment include general tiredness, sore mouth, swollen hands and feet, high blood pressure, chest pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight and loss, hair loss, dizziness, yellowing of skin or eyes, unusual bleeding from nose, mouth, vagina or rectum, dark urine and many more.

It should be noted that although high blood pressure is one of the adverse side effects of sutent treatment in renal cell carcinoma patients, it is a sign that the drug is working well.

Diseases Caused by a Blow to the Head

The most common disease caused by a blow to the head is concussion. Even if the blow is only a minor one and no immediate effects are felt, the results can be felt later.

A relatively severe blow can cause unconsciousness, and even if the state of unconsciousness only last for a few seconds it is possible for concussion to follow. The blow may be sustained while playing sports, from the result of an accident, or by being punched on the head during a fight. Any blow to the head should be treated seriously.

Concussion is caused by a disruption to the electrical activity within the brain, but is usually not associated with any damage to the brain, even a small jarring of the head may lead to concussion.

The symptoms of concussion will show as dizziness, an abnormal sleeping patter, reduced emotional responses, and an inability to recall events prior to the injury. More severe types of concussion or repeated bouts of the condition, as maybe experienced by boxers can lead to brain damage, speech impediment and what is commonly known as being ‘punch drunk’.

Serious forms of concussion can take several weeks recovery time while milder forms only last for a few hours or days at the most. During the initial recovery period the person may suffer from post concussion syndrome and have problems with readjusting to work, social, and study environments.

This type of syndrome is thought to be associated with very small amounts of damage being sustained by the brain but can readily be treated by psychiatric methods or drug treatment.

Diseases Caused by Alcohol

It is commonly believed that there are only two diseases caused by alcohol and its continual and heavy abuse: Alcoholism and cirrhosis of the liver. Certainly cirrhosis is often a side companion of alcoholism which in itself may have genetic origins.

However there are a number of other diseases which are directly associated with the consumption of heavy drinking, the following are a few of such diseases beginning with the most prevalent –

Liver Cirrhosis. This disease results from the scarring of healthy liver tissue, and interferes with the correct function of the organ causing bile to accumulate in the bloodstream. This can have several effects such as appetite and weight loss, jaundice, loss of cognitive ability, tremors and eventual coma. All of these conditions will be accompanied by an ever increase in blood pressure.

Pancreatitis. This can be similar to cirrhosis in that it causes inflammation and scarring of the pancreas. The symptoms are acute abdominal pain along with vomiting, excess perspiration and a fever. Levels of blood glucose can be affected since the disease interferes with the body’s natural method of insulin production.

Hypertension. The heavy use of alcohol also induces the condition known as hypertension which is strongly linked to an elevated blood pressure. Excess blood is being caused to flow through the arteries and can damage the inner walls of the arteries leading to pulmonary edema, aneurysm, angina, and heart attacks. Some people already have a genetic pre-disposition to hypertension which will be considerable exacerbated in the heavy drinker of alcohol.

Osteoporosis. This disease is more commonly associated with the aging process, but can be induced at an earlier stage by the effects of alcohol. The mass of the bone tissue becomes severely depleted causing the bones to become brittle and vulnerable to breakage. The habitual presence of alcohol has a counter effect against the necessary vitamins and minerals for good bone health.

Wernick-Kordakoff Syndrome. Alcohol abuse frequently leads to this serious disease. It is a mental condition resulting from a brain illness. It is commonly viewed by the medical profession as being a combination of two illnesses both brought on by continual alcohol drinking. The alcohol causes a vital vitamin deficiency which brings about an actual alteration in the brain, which affects the way the brain functions to a considerable degree. This can often be a permanent situation. Sufferers from the Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome exhibit symptoms such as blurring of the vision, the inability to remember clearly, cognitive problems, and trouble with movement of the legs.

There is no known medical cure for alcoholism, counseling can be useful but frequently only provides a temporary solution as do most kinds of drug therapy. The only method which has proven to have a high success rate in combating alcoholism is the twelve step program of Alcoholics Anonymous, where the disease is arrested one day at a time.

Diseases Caused by House Flies

Everyone knows of the annoyance caused by these creatures. They want to share food from your plate, drink from your cup, and read your newspaper while sitting on your nose!! But there are a wide number of diseases caused by houseflies and they are not only the annoying, and seemingly harmless creatures you may think.

The common housefly is not at all fussy where it eats and can often be seen on the feces of animals, garbage heaps, and decaying matter of any type. When the fly lands on your dinner plate it can pick up infections from such places and will transfer them to your food causing such diseases as –

Typhoid Fever. This disease is caused by a form of the Salmonella bacterium and has the symptoms of a very high temperature fever, loss of appetite and abdominal pain. It is readily treated with antibiotics, but if neglected can cause death.

Cholera. Although commonly associated with drinking contaminated water, the bacterium causing the disease, Vibria cholerae, can be transmitted to food eaten by people. Cholera results in watery diarrhea, a sticky mouth, and colored urine. Immediate treatment is necessary to include the intake of large amounts of water infused with salt and sugar.

Other diseases can be caused by infections from houseflies commonly caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli. The type of disease will depend on the type of this bacterium involved.

The strain known as Escherichia coli 0157:H7 can lead to acute diarrhea containing blood in the stools. It can lead to failure of the kidneys in younger children via a condition known as Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. Most other strains of this bacterium are harmless to humans and many do indeed live symbiotically in the human gut.

Disease Caused by the Tsetse Fly

The tsetse fly is a biting insect which feeds of the blood of humans and other animals. The tsetse is native to areas of Central Africa and is directly responsible for the transmission of diseases of which the most common is African sleeping sickness (trypanosomiasis).

The tsetse fly is the carrier of the Trypanosoma brucei which is a tiny organism propelled by a small tail or flagellate which lives in the blood of the host, the tsetse fly. Once a human or animal is bitten by a tsetse the flagellate transfers to the blood of the victim.

The parasite then proceeds to reproduce and spread, with the symptoms developing only slowly in the victim. The parasite can cause severe infections to the covering of the brain (menges), the spinal cord and attack the whole central nervous system. The infection can prove fatal unless immediate treatment is administered.

There is another species of the flagellate organism, Trypanosoma brucei gambiense which results in a more continuing infection. This can last for several years when finally the sufferer falls into a long period of unconsciousness from which the victim does not awake hence the name ‘sleeping sickness’.

There are no vaccines available for sleeping sickness or other conditions caused by the bite of the tsetse fly. There are four powerful medicines available for the treatment of the sleeping sickness of which Pentamidine is recommended but prevention of the bites and controlling the locations of breeding of the fly can be carried out by using careful methods.

In affected areas it is advisable to dress in long sleeves shirts and long pants, which may be uncomfortable in hot climates but better than suffering the diseases caused by the tsetse fly bite!

Note: If You Have These Symptoms You May Have Diabetes

The symptoms of diabetes are often subtle, sometimes imperceptible. If left untreated, diabetes can have serious health consequences. If you recognize yourself in some of these symptoms it is necessary to consult a physician.

– When we talk about diabetes in question is an insidious disease that shows no signs when the symptoms are already visible this means that the disease is at an advanced stage. Diabetes is a consequence of complications in brain blood vessels and nerves and can quickly lead to serious condition or death. Regular medical examination is possible to detect diabetes at the time and the patient subjected to metabolic therapy tablets or insulin therapy. We need special attention and go for more control if a family member has diabetes or has had a heart attack or stroke.

Excessive thirst

The first symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination and excessive desire to entering any kind of liquid. This happens as a result of excess sugar builds up in the blood if the kidneys can not absorb glucose leads to dehydration and therefore increases the need for fluid intake, which later leads to frequent urination.

HUNGER

Excessive demand for food is one of the signs of diabetes and is caused by changes in blood sugar levels. When blood sugar drops, we feel the hunger and the need for glucose as an energy source.

Fatigue and weakness

The feeling of fatigue is another indicator of diabetes. Same as with the excessive need for food, dehydration and lack of sugar in the body can lead to lack of energy which will cause you to feel the constant to and tiring easily.

WEIGHT LOSS

Sudden fluctuations in weight also fall under the possible signs and symptoms of diabetes. When you lose sugar through frequent urination, you may lose the calories.

Blurred vision

Symptoms can sometimes include vision problems. High levels of blood sugar pull fluid from the tissues, including the eye. If left untreated, diabetes can cause permanent damage to eyesight.

Frequent infections

Infections are more common if you have diabetes. In women, the most common vaginal infection.

Tingling in the hands and feet

Excess sugar in the blood can lead to nerve damage. If you feel tingling and loss of sensation in the hands and feet as well as painful burning in the hands, legs and feet it is time to see your doctor because there is a fear that it comes to diabetes.

SENSITIVE RIGHT

Diabetes can weaken the ability to fight bacteria which is raised risk of gum infections. It may cause inflammation of the gums accompanied by pus, especially if you have a gum infection before diabetes develops.

PROBLEMS WITH THE SKIN

Itching, dry skin, or poor circulation, as well as many other problems can be a sign of diabetes. Darker skin on the neck or armpits can be a sign of resistance of the body to insulin and high blood sugar.

If you notice any of these symptoms of diabetes, talk to your doctor. Early diabetes by detecting possible that the disease keeps under control with a healthy and active life.

Hearing Loss Is No Longer Unavoidable

The increase in traffic, more powerful home entertainment systems, louder cinema experiences, jet engines and powerful machinery are contributing to a noisier world. This has meant that the number of Americans who are either deaf or suffer from hearing difficulties has risen to over 28 million.

Thankfully, it is possible to delay or even prevent completely many forms of hearing loss. Medical treatments have improved and the hearing aids that are available today are more comfortable and more effective than in the past.

Hearing loss sufferers are becoming younger as more people become exposed to dangerous sound levels. The number of Americans that are living with irreversible damage to their hearing from dangerous noise levels is around 10 million, and 30 million are exposed to damaging levels of noise every day.

People between the ages of 45 and 64 have the highest amount of hearing loss with a 365% loss amongst males and 85% loss amongst women. Preventing hearing loss from noise and ear infections including middle ear infections in children is possible.

Experts recommend hearing tests should begin at birth. Otocoustic emissions is a new, inexpensive technique that can accurately detect any problems that may exist in newborn babies. Language skills begin to develop in the first six months after birth and by diagnosing any problems as early as possible will give a child the best opportunity for healthy development.

Sound is collected by our outer ears and causes the ear drum and the tiny bones of the inner ear to vibrate. Hair shaped cells inside the ear and cochlea convert the vibrations into electrical nerve impulses which then travel to the brain. These cells do not grow back if they become damaged.

One common symptom of hearing damage is tinnitus where the person hears a constant ringing or a buzz which is not actually present. Approximately 40 million people in America suffer from tinnitus to some degree but most manage to carry out their lives as normal.

Some suffers find the level of noise easily bearable and many have described the sounds as crickets which they hear and which can lull them off to sleep. But for others tinnitus can be simply maddening. Unfortunately there is currently no cure for tinnitus but approximately 80% of the 10 million people who do suffer from severe tinnitus can get some form of relief.

William Shatner, the actor best known for his role as Captain Kirk on the television series Star Trek was almost driven to commit suicide after being tormented by tinnitus. He believes it is possible that explosions let off on set of Star Trek could have been the cause of his condition.

You can protect yourself from hearing loss in the following ways. You can save your hearing by wearing protective earplugs. Exposure to any sounds above 90 decibels from thing like electric drills and motorcycles for a long period can cause a temporary loss of hearing. Any equipment that produces over 100 decibels of sound can damage your hearing in 15 minutes if unprotected. Permanent hearing loss can be caused by exposure to anything over 110 decibels, including chainsaws, music concerts and heavy industrial machinery.

Hearing damage can be caused by ear infections if they are not treated early. Some ear infections do not involve any pain or fever. No other symptoms may be present apart from a loss in hearing. If you ever have any loss in hearing you should immediately see a doctor to get a test done.

Your one-stop resource on free hearing test is waiting for you. Visit the page on hearing clinics to get more information.

Diseases Caused by Malnutrition

Malnutrition represents a total lack of inadequate nutrition. It is a lack of healthy food in the diet or can be associated with the continual consumption of unhealthy foods; both will lead to ill health.

Malnutrition is the biggest cause of death especially among children throughout the world particularly in third world countries. It is caused by various deficiency disorders associated with lack of protein ands vitamins in the daily diet

There are a number of diseases caused by malnutrition so it is important to know of some of these diseases, and the signs of malnutrition in order to be able to deal with them. But inevitably the main cause of malnutrition is poverty brought about by lack of jobs in the third world and a total inequality in the distribution of wealth.

Some Diseases Caused by Malnutrition.

Kwashiorker. This common form of malnutrition is caused by a complete lack of proteins, vitamins and minerals in the diet. The signs of this disease are many but typically include a swollen stomach, loss of teeth, an enlarged liver, and skin disease. A further symptom of kwashiorkor is edema of the feet which results in swollen feet due to excess fluid building up in the cell tissue in this area. With the subsequent lowering of overall health the sufferer becomes extremely susceptible to other types of disease, and lacking vital nutrients, the body often fails to respond to vaccinations administered against other diseases.

Marasmus. Marasmus is of almost epidemic proportions in parts of Africa and particular other third world countries. It is commonly found in young children and is directly attributable to protein and calorie deficiency. The disease causes severe emaciation and wasting of the muscles. The sufferer is continually hungry and will show signs of extreme irritability. The person will be highly susceptible to other diseases, which in turn add to an already high mortality rate from Marasmus

Anemia. The main causes of anemia are lack of iron and lack of vitamin B12 in the diet. This disease is relatively common throughout the world and by no means confined to third world areas, where the condition is equally common. It can often be observed in pregnant women and shows by causing shortness of breath, changes in skin pallor, and general lethargy.

Goiter. The symptoms of goiter are an enlargement of the thyroid gland which occasionally becomes so swollen as to interfere with breathing due to the larynx becoming compressed. Goiter is caused primarily due to the lack of the mineral Iodine. The natural environment in some countries does not contain iodine in the soil, and it has to be obtained as a food supplement.

Hyponatremia. This condition is often associated with a high antidiuretic hormone level, and is caused by a deficiency of the mineral Sodium, with levels of the mineral being lower than 135mEq/L. in blood plasma. The signs of deficiency are vomiting and headaches. If not treated these signs will develop into mental confusion, seizures, and loss of cognitive ability.

Diseases Caused by Vitamin C Deficiency

Vitamins are organic substances which are essential to the process of metabolism in animal life. They are found in small quantities in food, some are produced naturally by the body, and vitamins can be produced synthetically by pharmaceutical manufacturers.

There are a number of diseases caused by vitamin C deficiency which can have varying effects on the body, some of which can be more serious than others. –

The most common disease resulting from lack of vitamin C is scurvy. It shows as bleeding of the gums, loose teeth, and degeneration of the teeth enamel. It may also lead to bleeding of the skin and mucous membrane. Victims of scurvy will frequently experience bouts of lethargy, muscle pain, and anemia with possible discoloration of the skin. It was a common disease in seamen in the past who endured long sea voyages often lacking fruit and vegetables in their diet which are a rich source of vitamin C.

Other diseases caused by lack of vitamin C include the following conditions. –

  • Dry hair which has a tendency to become split at the ends.
  • Rough and scaly skin.
  • A weakening of body tissue and bone materials.
  • Cataracts in the lens of the eye, directly due to lack of vitamin C.
  • A reduction in the efficiency of the immune system, thus increasing the risk of infection.
  • Problems associated with the respiratory system which largely depends on vitamin C for correct functioning.

The converse to suffering a deficiency in the intake of vitamin C is to have too much!! If there is an excess of the vitamin in the body it will lead to severe diarrhea, sickness, and acute stomach upset. There have been cases recorded whereby continuing excess vitamin C in the parent may result in some form of genetic deformity in the offspring. Certainly if excess vitamin C is metabolized into uric acid, problems with the formation of kidney stones may be encountered.

The solution to any deficiency of vitamin C is to pay attention to the diet. Vitamin C is found in the form of ascorbic acid and a daily intake of 50 – 60mg of the substance is recommended, indeed for any person suffering from scurvy a much higher intake of 300 – 1000 mg is recommended. Fruit and vegetables are a common source of vitamin C; oranges, mangos, leafy vegetables, potatoes, cabbage, and tomatoes should form part of the daily diet.

Care should be taken with the preparation of the vegetables since overcooking can often deplete the vitamin content, and the consumption of too much canned vegetable and fruit should be avoided, vitamin C can often be lost during the processing of canned goods.

There are many over the counter vitamin supplements available which can be used as a daily ‘vitamin pill’ to ensure an adequate intake of vitamin C and ensure a healthy life.

Diseases Caused by the Nine Planets

Astrologers firmly believe that the influence of heavenly bodies in the form of the nine planets on the human being can be either beneficial or detrimental to the health of any person.  This depends on the position of the celestial body at the time of birth.

The names of the nine planets used by astrologers are Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu which are referred to as Navgrahas (nine planets!).

Each of these planets has a differing effect on specific parts of the body on which both a spiritual and physical influence is exercised. The diseases caused by the nine planets on varying body parts are dependent upon whether the planet is beneficial or malignant in its effect. The effects on the human body by the non beneficial planets are as follows.

1. Sun.  The influence of the sun is to cause problems with the eyes, bone breakages and troubles with the digestive system.

2. Moon. Diseases associated with the moon tend to be a bit more serious and show as sexual disease, depressive illness, disease of the blood, and nasal swelling.

3. Mars.  Commonly associated with Mars are diseases of the bone marrow, jaundice, blood disease, and smallpox. It has a direct effect on the menstrual cycle of ladies causing complications and pain.

4. Saturn.  There are many diseases associated with the malignant effects of Saturn which include epilepsy, deafness, rheumatic and gastric problems, and acute muscular pain. Mental afflictions can occur also causing depression and and anxiety.

5. Rahu.  The influences tend to induce suicidal thoughts. Signs of leprosy become evident and the soul is frequently haunted with bad spirits and ghostly objects.

6. Ketu.  The person under the influence of Ketu suffers from many strange and unexplainable body pains. Believers suggest that these pains are result of curses placed upon the person in a previous life.

Root Destroying Prostate Cancer Cells and Ovarian!

Proof that God has thought of everything when He created our planet is in front of us. And creating roots and tubers, God is thought of man, his beloved being, infusing the roots health, which will be of service to man for life on God’s planet.
jajnici

Among God’s great medicine in the world certainly is ginger. Ginger has long been used to treat inflammation and nausea, but the results that were presented at a lecture American Assoaciation for Cancer Research reveals that in each instance when used ginger powder to treat cancer cells, they are all dead after exposure to this ingredient. In medical parlance this is called apoptosis (programmed cell death).

When the ginger is present, the cancer cells even attack one another, it is called autophagy. While ginger is considered as a great natural remedy for those who undergo chemotherapy (nausea) people with cancer can use it at your own will in larger quantities. But for the full and almost certainly cure of cancer, the treatment is only recommended ginger, without chemotherapy in combination with other natural remedies, such as honey.

Another study shows that ginger capabilities in the fight against ovarian cancer states: Ginger prevents growth and modulates secretion of angiogenic factors in ovarian cancer cells. The use of dietary substances as ginger, have potential in the treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer.

Diseases Caused by Excess TV Watching

Selective TV watching can be an informative and enjoyable habit for anyone, but it is not recommended to stay glued to the screen for endless hours each day.

For any adult to become a TV ‘couch potato’ can have adverse effects on the health of the person. It is not so much the watching of the actual TV programs which is harmful, (although some of them can be bad enough!), but the side effects of continual wear on the eyes which could lead to eye diseases. Further the person will suffer from a complete lack of exercise which along with the consumption of a ‘TV diet’ would increase the risk of heart disease.

Consideration should also be given to the effects on young children. Babies are very sensitive to sound and movement and normally will respond to the voice of their mother. For a young baby staring at the screen he or she can become confused at the mechanical sound which could possibly be the start of autistic episodes.

To avoid the chance of any disease occurring in the young as a result of being exposed to too much television the following advice is offered –

Avoid allowing the youngster to continually stare at the screen; the persistent flashing of the screen strobe can lead to diseases such as Strabisumu amd Esoptropia.

The continual watching of the TV will expose the young one to the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation.

The rapid speech delivered from the TV sound will confuse the young child and can lead to problems with attention which may lead to onset of autism.

By being continually absorbed by TV programs, and since watching is a passive activity the child’s brain will not develop correctly. The child may not develop the necessary abilities to interact dynamically with others, and tend to become a little reclusive in later life not have the ability to think independently.

Disease Caused by Bacteria in Horses

Apart from veterinary doctors and some people who breed horses or rely on them as a means of livelihood, there are not to many people who know of the diseases which can affect these beautiful equine creatures.

Just like humans and all other animals horses can become sick from either viral or bacterial infections. Horses also can be susceptible to physical injury, especially racehorses and show horses, which have been bred artificially for speed or to jump.

As is the case in humans, if the signs of illness or infection are recognized early enough then measures can be taken to prevent the condition becoming more serious. Some common diseases caused by bacteria in horses are as follows.

Horse Distemper Also known as the ‘strangles’ is usually associated with young horses and can readily affect other horses via a nasal discharge.

Cushings Disease. Unfortunately this condition has no cure and results from the development of a growth in the pituitary gland. The symptoms which commonly occur in older horse or young ponies can be alleviated by the administration of medicines each day.

Swamp Fever. Often referred to as Equine encephalomyelitis. This is a viral lung disease which is highly infectious.

Tetanus. This disease is usually caused by the animal eating grass which has grown in soil contaminated by the tetanus bacteria Clostridium tetani. Tetanus (lockjaw) causes chronic spasms in the neck and jaw in much the same way that humans are affected. Tetanus can also be caused by an injury but the disease can be treated with an anti- tetanus vaccine, if treatment is delayed the disease can be fatal.

Horse Fever. Sometimes referred to as ‘Potomac Fever’ is fairly common in western regions of the USA. The symptoms show as acute diarrhea, a refusal to eat, and a high fever.

Horses like humans can develop colds, coughs, and flu like symptoms which if not treated can lead to pneumonia.
